COMPETITIONS

Littleport Age Banded Junior Invitation on Sunday 6th July
at Littleport Leisure Centre.Players are banded in 2 groups by reference to birth year and age on the day. Group 1 for players born 1996 to 2000 over 8 and under 12 years old with Under 12 technical restrictions, Group 2 for players born from 1992 to 1996 over 12 and under 16 years old. Cost £12.00, (closing date 1st July).

Saffron Walden Inter Club Under 16 Red Belts on Saturday 19th July
at Rainey Sports Hall, Dame Bradbury School, Saffron Walden. Inter club event for novice to 3rd mon players from 8 to 15 years old. Players arranged into pools on the day and Under 10 Technical Restrictions apply to all competitors. Cost £9, (closing date 14th July).

Lakeland Open Junior and Cadet Championships on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August
at Kendal Judo Club, The Dojo, Parkside Business Park, Parkside Road, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 7EN. Players are banded in 2 groups by reference to birth year. Saturday players are born in 1989 to 1992. Sunday players are born in 1993 to 1996. Cost £18.00 if received by 31st July and £20 if received in August, (closing date 15th August).

Heart of England Age Banded & Senior on Sunday 7th September at National Indoor Arena, Birmingham.
Junior players banded by reference to birth year with a minimum grade requirement.
Band B is 1995 & 1996, (minimum grade 7th mon orange belt), band C is 1993 & 1994, (minimum grade 10th mon green belt), band D is 1991 & 1992, (minimum grade 13th mon blue belt). Armlocks & Strangles allowed in Bands C & D.
This event is the 1st of 2 World Class Start Selection events. Cost £15, (closing date 16th August).
Point scoring event for 1st kyu and dan grades
Senior players must hold a senior licence and minimum grade of 15th mon or 2nd kyu (blue belt).
Cost £20, (closing date 16th August).

Ipswich Open Age Banded Under 20 on Sunday 28th September at Northgate Sports Centre, Ipswich.
Junior section for 12 to 15 year old players with a mon grade and a Youth section for 14 to 19 year old players.
Cost is £14 for 1 category, £16 to enter both (closing date 22nd September).

High Wycombe Kyu Grade Cup on Saturday 4th October at High Wycombe Judo Centre.
Grade banded event with 2 categories, 1 for Novice to Green belt, (3rd kyu), 1 for Blue to Brown belt, (2nd & 1st kyu).
All competitors must hold valid Senior licence and the event is Point Scoring for 1st kyu.
There may also be a grading after the competition, Technical up to 2nd kyu and Competitive for 1st kyu.
Cost £15, (closing date, 30th September).

British Championships (formerly National Age Bands) on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October at Sheffield Arena.
Players are still banded by birth year with minimum grade requirement of green belt but groups are are now referred to as 12 & 13 year olds, 14 & 15 year olds, 16 & 17 year olds. Group entered is determined by age at the end of the year, i.e. 12 & 13 year olds are born in 1995 & 1996, 14 & 15 year olds are born in 1993 & 1994 etc.
Armlocks & Strangles allowed by 14 & 15 year olds and above.
This is the 2nd of 2 World Class Start Selection events. Cost £18, (closing date 25 September).
Please note other changes:
All competitors must have Blue and White, or reversible, judogi, (jacket and trousers), and grade belt for this event.
This is compulsory so please read entry form carefully for new procedures.

Littleport Mini Age Bands Closed on Sunday 7th December at Littleport Leisure Centre.
Players are banded in 2 groups by reference to age on the day.
Group 1 for 8 and 9 year olds from novice to 6th mon with Under 10 technical restrictions.
Group 2 for 10 and 11 year olds from novice to 9th mon with Under 12 technical restrictions.
There are no weight bands as players are pooled in a fair manner and all competitors receive a medal.
Cost £6.00, (closing date 4th December).

Ask Ros or download competition entry forms from National and Area websites and send completed form and fee to the address on entry forms. Valid licence must be presented at events so check expiry dates.
Some events only allow coaches to the mat if coaching pass is requested on entry forms.
Speak to Ray or Ros about availability before sending these entry forms if you want coaching.
Coach fees are reimbursed.

TRAINING

WORLD CLASS START PROGRAMME
Squad Camps at Kendal Judo Club – 9th & 10th August (select band B), 16th & 17th August (select bands C & D).
Boys National Training on Sunday 14th September at EIS, Sheffield for bands B to D. Mat fee £5.

WCSP Area Training on selected Tuesdays each month at Happidojo, Shelford, Cambs. 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Next sessions led by David Southby on Tuesdays 15th July, 16th September, 14th October, 11th November 2008. mat fee £5.
WCSP Area Training sessions are not restricted to WCSP players. Area players over 9 years old and 6th mon can attend.

TRAINING TOGETHER – 2008
Sundays 20th July, 21st September, 19th October and 23rd November.
All at Thetford Sports Centre from 9.30am to 2pm. Mat fee £3 (WCSP, 9.30am to 4pm, mat fee £5).
General Training Together is for all Junior and Senior players wanting to improve skills and provides an excellent opportunity to train with players from other clubs under the supervision of different coaches.
Training Together Sessions are often attended by World Class Start coaches to co-opt promising 12 to 17 year old players onto the WCS Program. Invited players are not forced to participate, they have a choice.
Designated WCSP Area Training Together sessions are for players over 9 years old graded 6th mon or above.

Booking in: Juniors: 9am for 6th mon boys and all girls, 10.15am for boys 7th mon and above,
Seniors: 11am for up to 2nd kyu, 12.15pm for 1st kyu and above.

NEW TECHNICAL GRADING SCHEME

Sunday 26th October Technical Mon and Kyu Assessment and Competitive Dan Grading at Thetford Sports Centre.
More Information will follow when available.

Check licence is in date with theory signed above current grade or ask for a theory test before a competitive promotion exam if required.
Technical Promotions.
Techniques up to 9th mon, 4th kyu (orange belt) can be taught and examined by the same qualified official.
Techniques for 10th mon, 3rd kyu (green belt) and above are taught by a qualified coach and examined by a qualified
assessor who cannot be the person who taught the techniques.
Please speak to Ray or Ros when ready for assessment.
Cost is £5 per examination and paid direct to the club to send with the assessment forms to BJA Head Office.
Technical Promotions to green belt and higher can be at the club or at other events.
